Series 1:
One day, a normal fourth grade girl, Kinomoto Sakura*, was waiting for her
father in his library. Being a bit bored, she began to look through the
different books. By doing this, she stumbled upon a book called the
'Clow'. Once opened, the Clow Cards were released which scattered
everywhere. A small cat-like creature was awakened from the Clow. He
explained to Sakura that he was Kerberos², the creature of the Clow, and
he was assigned to protect the Clow and Clow cards. He told her that since
she was able to open the Clow, she must possess magic powers, and she now
must recapture all the Clow Cards because otherwise they would wreak havoc
on the world. Thusly, Kerberos made Sakura a Cardcaptor. Sakura eventually
captured all the Clow Cards and returned them to the Clow, with the help
of her friends Tomoyo° and Syaoran•. But once the cards were returned,
the Judge appeared and told Sakura she must pass a test. If she won a
fight against Moon she would become the master of the Clow. But if she
failed, she would lose all memory of the Clow. Sakura was able to pass the
test with the help of Mitzuki Kahou, and became even more powerful in the
process. And, as there were no more cards to capture, things eventually
returned to normal.
*Family name is written first. Name changed to "Sakura Avalon"
in the US anime.
²Also spelled "Cerberos" or "Cerberus". Nicknamed
Kero-chan by Sakura.
°Name changed to Madison Taylor in the US anime.
•Also spelled "Shaolan", "Shaoran", "Shao-Lang",
"Xiaolan", or "Xiao-Lang". CLAMP's spelling is "Syaoran"
though, even though it is pronounced more as "Shaoran". The
name, I believe, is supposed to be "Shao-lang" but in Japanese
R's and L's resemble each other and G's on the end of words seem to go
unnoticed.
Note: 'Clow' rhymes with 'glow'. It is mispronounced in the dub.
